About

In this six session throwing course, tutor Rosie will demonstrate throwing vessels with lids. There will be plenty of hands-on practice in throwing on the wheel, focusing on improving height and evenness, whilst learning techniques for making lidded pots with well-fitting lids.

There will be a smaller and a larger pot project. Rosie will start out introducing one style of lid to make smaller pots (500-600g). Then you can move onto a larger pot in a different style, with the opportunity to have a go working with 800g – 1kg of clay. Rosie will cover different techniques for working with more clay.

Techniques covered across the three-hour sessions include:

- experimenting with forms

- various methods used to make different lid shapes

- how to make a gallery

- throwing off the hump

- how to glaze a lidded pot

- add resist effects using wax and tape when glazing

This course is ideal for anyone who has learnt the basics of centering and throwing a cylinder and who wishes to broaden their skills and improve.
