About

badgers Tea House was the village bakery for over 200 years until 1933, and the tradition of exceptional baking on the premises continues. Enjoy tea, proper coffee, cakes, scones and light lunches in the cosy tea room or in the flower-filled walled garden.

Drink tea from fine bone china cups, poured from silver teapots, in the beautiful walled garden, or in the cosy tea room and enjoy freshly baked homemade cakes, scones, clotted cream, jam and much more……

The emphasis has always been on quality, use of the finest ingredients and exceptional service.

badgers was the village bakery for 200 years until 1933 – village residents used to bring cakes to bake to their local bakery (it was run by Richard Harryott in the 1700s, known as Doughy!), but once domestic ovens were affordable, many villages lost their bakery.

“Dissenters” from St Andrews Church met here in the late 18th Century until they built their own independent church (now the United Reformed Church) in 1801, which sadly closed in 2009. There is even have a Standing Stone in the pavement outside the front door...

Alfriston has a rich history, and you can continue to explore after your visit to badgers @ The Old Village Bakery.
