Crowborough is the largest inland town in East Sussex and one of the county's highest points. Crowborough is situated on the edge of Ashdown Forest in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where horse riding and walking are among some of the leisure activities to enjoy. It is also best known for its famous resident Sir Arthur Conan Doyle creator of Sherlock Holmes
The nearby Ashdown Forest was the inspiration for the Winnie the Pooh stories and the Victorian English nature writer Richard Jeffries was also inspired to write several essays based around Sussex whilst living in Crowborough in the late 1880s.
